FMP proposal

Section 1:

The title of my project is called Shadow and lighting Photography. I will work towards a finished, polished, strong image with good lighting and not too much digital editing or manipulation done to it. I try to make my work different and either exciting or good quality. So, in this project I will create images that look well thought out but instead of doing what I usually do (landscapes and on location) I will use the studio to extend my knowledge on lighting and angles and reflecting. I am going to do some kind of shadowing so I’ll need to practice and perfect where to put them and the levels they’re set on.

Section 2:

I was looking through Pinterest and I saw a few images and really liked it and thought I would replicate it and develop it in my own style. Its relevant to my ideas because I wanted to explore the studio more and increase my knowledge on the studio, also to try more different ways of setting up and using the lighting. I would research portrait photographers because there is definitely going to be at least one model in the images so I will research portrait artists. Additionally, I will research studio photographers to see what kind of lighting they use and different techniques they explore. I will just search for these artists on the Internet and see what catches my eye. I am going to explore the different ranges of lighting sets and which equipment to use. Also I’m going to focus on poses and the best places to capture the beauty within the pose/image. Practically, I am going to do a few photoshoots to help get more ideas in my head as to how I'm going to place my models and capture the better images. For one of my ideas I may need a few props for a little newborn baby to play with or for myself to have something to get their attention so that they are looking towards the camera so I need to think about what I need to accomplish that.

Section 3:

I intend to focus on using lighting techniques and how to create a nice shadowing in the image on camera and not have to manipulate in Photoshop. In the studio, the media that I will use will be; the Cannon EOS 5d. I only intend on using the 5d because it is very good and dependable and any other camera, whether digital or film, won’t allow the images to come out how I want them too. As I am doing a studio shoot, I will use and experiment with a lot of lighting and reflectors and the snoot for experimentation with a spot light. Once I have picked my final images, I will Photoshop them slightly just to tidy up. I want to have finished editing and evaluating my images by the 4^th week at the latest. I will manage this by creating a week-by-week plan so that I have a target to reach each time I come to do my work. When my work is being presented, I want the images to be in a rectangular frame vertically so it looks like a filmstrip. The strip will consist of 3 to 5 images. Young people between the ages of 15-28, mainly girls (probably) is the audience I am aiming these images at. My work won’t necessarily have a purpose, it will rather be documentary and magazine worthy, type of images.

Section 4:

I will assess my work by comparing it to the images that I have taken inspiration from of which I am replicating and developing. To identify what needs developing further or improving, I will check over my work several times and see what needs to be altered. I am going to say what my ideas are and then when I have completed them, I will evaluate what I have done and say what I did not like or/ and how I can improve it. To access the success of my project, I will need a studio, good lighting and a creative mind with a good eye.
